Navigating Breckenridge, Colorado: Transportation, Parking, and Transit

Breckenridge draws visitors year-round with its stunning mountain views, charming town, and endless outdoor activities. Driving here can be part of the adventure, but parking and navigating the town can require some planning. Staying at the Wedgewood Lodge offers a cozy base, but once you arrive, you might find it easier to leave the car behind. This guide provides tips for getting to Breckenridge, parking at Wedgewood Lodge and in town, and how to enjoy local adventures without the hassle of driving.
Getting to Breckenridge by Car
Breckenridge sits about 80 miles west of Denver. The most direct route to Breckenridge from Denver or Denver International Airport (DIA) is via Interstate 70.
A longer alternative route, via Highway 285, will also bring you to Breckenridge.
Both drives are incredibly scenic and offer different types of mountain driving. Selecting the best route for your trip is important, especially for the season you're traveling. Breckenridge changes with the seasons, and so do driving conditions.
Before you hit the road:
Check weather and road conditions on Colorado Department of Transportation’s (CDOT) website.
Allow extra travel time especially during peak seasons, weekends, and during construction projects.
Be aware of CDOT's traffic restrictions during the winter months.
In short, cars may be required to have either adequate snow tires or 4WD/AWD and may be required during the most severe weather to have chains or AutoSock installed.

The weather and conditions you experience in Denver DO NOT determine the conditions you'll experience as you drive to Breckenridge. This is especialy true in the winter. Slow down, be patient, and prepare for delays. Interstate 70 and Highway 285 are main arteries that provide access to many different destinations and ski resorts. Typically, you'll experience traffic coming up to Breckenridge on Friday's. The same is true when departing back to Denver on Sunday.
Getting to Breckenridge by Shuttle
There are a number of different shuttle companies that operate from Denver International Airport (DIA) to Breckenridge. You can reserve a private shuttle or a shared shuttle ride. It's recommended that reservations be made in advance, especially if you're traveling during the holidays, other peak times throughout the season, or if you're looking to reserve a seat on a shared shuttle ride.
Shared shuttles are great for solo travelers, small groups and couples, and folks looking to reduce their overall transportation expenses. Please note that shared shuttles run during specific operational hours. If you're arriving at DIA late in the evening or very early in the morning, you may need to wait at the airport for the soonest available shared shuttle. This also applies if you need to leave Breckenridge at a very early or late hour.

Private shuttles are more expensive than shared shuttles, but they offer a number of unique benefits. Private shuttles are perfect for large groups, families, folks that enjoy the company of their own party, and people or parties that have flights outside of operational hours for shared shuttles. Additionally, you get door-to-door service without having to wait or make additional stops.

Getting to Breckenridge by Ride Share
Uber and Lyft are the most prevalent and popular ride share platforms in Colorado. Booking a ride from Denver to Breckenridge can be done simply. However, getting a ride from Breckenridge to Denver is not always as straight forward. While Uber and Lyft operate in Breckenridge, most drivers commute from other places to Summit County during popular times such as holidays and weekends, therefore it's not always the most reliable option. Ride share platforms in Summit County can frequently take additional time to connect you with a driver, or indicate that no drivers are available.
If you plan on using a ride share platform as your way to and from Breckenridge, please schedule a ride in advance, especially for your departure from Breckenridge. Ride share drivers operate on their own schedule, having a backup plan is worth considering.
Getting to Breckenridge by Public Transportation
The most affordable way to get to Breckenridge from Denver or Denver International Airport (DIA) is via public transportation. The first thing you'll want to do is get to Union Station. If you're coming from DIA you'll need to take the RTD rail service. The A Line costs $10.50 and will get you from DIA to Union Station.
From Union Station, take the Bustang West Line towards Grand Juntion. Get off at the Frisco Bus Station. Connect to the free Summit Stage bus to Breckenridge. You'll get dropped off at Breckenridge Station. Once there you'll get on the FreeRide bus to get to your final destination. If you're staying at the Wedgewood Lodge, you'll want to hop on either the Gray (summer) or Yellow (winter) route going South. The 'Snowflake' stop is the closest stop to the lodge. When you get off you'll walk 1 - 2 minutes down across the street to Wedgewood Lodge.
In addition to the Colorado Department of Transportations Bustang West service, which stops in Frisco, the Pegasus service also runs from Denver Union Station to Frisco and the Snowstang service runs directly from Denver to Breckenridge.
Parking at Wedgewood Lodge
Parking in Breckenridge Colorado is limited due to space constraints.
The town enforces strict parking regulations. Wedgewood Lodge stands out among other local properties because we offer free parking as well as guarantee one unassigned parking spot per unit.
Wedgewood Lodge has an underground parking garage, outside parking at the rear of our property and two street spots on 4 O'Clock Road. We have four Charge Point stations inside the garage for guests to charge their electric vehicles. There are two handicap accessible spots located inside the garage, that require proper permits. Parking is first come, first serve.
Each unit receives one parking pass. If you are traveling with multiple vehicles, you can call on the day of your arrival to inquire about getting an additional parking pass. Getting an additional parking pass is not guaranteed. If we are unable to provide a second parking pass, additional vehicles will need to pay for overnight parking in town.
Overnight paid parking in town can fill up quickly. In the summer, the Stephen C. Ice Arena allows paid overnight parking for standard sized vehicles. In the winter, the Stephen C. Ice Arena and the Breckenridge Nordic Center allow overnight paid parking. Reservations can be made in advance by going online to Breck Park's website, or you can click the link below.
Oversized vehicles such as RV's, trailers, buses, and campers are not allowed to park at Wedgewood Lodge. Guests with oversized vehicles will need to pay for overnight parking in town at the Runway Oversized Lot. Reservations can be made online at Breck Park's website, or you can click the link below.
Parking Regulations in Breckenridge
Street parking in Breckenridge is metered and enforced, bring your credit or debit card or download the 'Passport' app for mobile parking registration.
Parking in town-operated or resort lots is prohibited between 2:00AM to 6:00AM.
Paid overnight parking is only allowed in the Stephen C. Ice Arena, Runway Oversized Lot, or Breckenridge Nordic Center (winter seasonal).
Street Parking is restricted year-round unless explicitly posted.
Avoid parking in restricted zones to prevent fines or towing.

How to Ditch the Car for Local Adventures
Breckenridge’s compact downtown, surrounding trails, and incredible FREE public transportation make it easy to explore without a car. Here are ways to get around once you’ve parked or made it here via an alternative mode of transportation:
Walk: The Wedgewood Lodge is 0.4 miles (0.64km) from the heart of Breckenridge Main Street. Breckenridge Main Street is less than a mile long. Walking from the lodge and exploring more than 200+ stores on Main street is walking accessible.
Bike: Rent a bike from Charter Sports or bring your own. Breckenridge is bike friendly. Securely store and repair your gear in the Wedgewood Lodge bike room.
Free Local Public Transportation: The Breckenridge FreeRide takes you around Breckenridge! The Snowflake stop is across the street from the Wedgewood Lodge.
Free County Public Transportation: The Summit Stage bus can take you all around Summit County for free! Catch a ride at Breckenridge Station.
If you've booked activites at Good Times Adventures or Breck Stables, you will want to plan ahead and reseve a private shuttle, personal vehicle, or plan on walking in addition to taking free public trasnportation.
Leaving your car at Wedgewood Lodge or ditching it entirely lets you enjoy Breckenridge’s charm without worrying about paying for parking, traffic, and navigating town.
